A customer operating multiple spray drying factories across Europe encountered unexpected feedback from one of their clients. Due to a logistical mix-up, the customer received powder from a different factory and immediately noticed an improvement—their machines no longer clogged. As a result, they insisted on receiving only that specific powder going forward. The client was puzzled: they were supposedly producing the exact same product across all factories. To uncover the mystery, they turned to our specialist.
Our Solution
After a thorough investigation, we identified a subtle yet crucial difference: the factory producing the “better” powder was using a different nozzle. The nozzle used at the original production site created slightly higher resistance as the product passed through it, causing a minor temperature increase. This small change altered the molecular structure of the powder, negatively impacting its flowability.
Our solution? We recommended switching to the same nozzle type across all production sites. This adjustment ensured uniform product behavior and eliminated inconsistencies in flowability.
